Honda is fronting up to the Geneva motor show next month with a new engine to promote its Earth Dreams Technology strategy.

The 1.6-litre diesel will be the first of a new family of frugal engines aimed at carrying the company forward into the future. According to the company, the new engine will develop 88kW of power and a pretty handy torque figure of 300Nm. Honda won't reveal much more concerning the lightweight engine's fuel efficiency, but in a press release the company forecast class-leading fuel economy and sub-100g/km CO2 emissions when it goes on sale in the Civic later this year.

No pics as yet, but Honda will also unveil the European market CR-V at Geneva. The NSX Concept (pictured), which made its debut in Detroit last month, will also be seen in Geneva, and the company will also attract visitors to the stand with the EV-STER, which was first revealed to the public in Tokyo last year.
