Audi will present its stunning R8 GT at next month's Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Melbourne, the 412kW/540Nm coupe one of just five examples ear-marked for local delivery, and one of 333 cars to be produced.

Set to star alongside the all-new Audi A6, the R8 GT is lighter, faster and more powerful than its already impressive derivative model.

The highly focussed limited production sports car is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine and sheds roughly 100kg from its overall weight (when compared to the R8 5.2 FSI quattro), thanks to the generous use of carbon fibre. Like all R8s, the GT features a hand-built aluminium space frame body that tips the scales at just 210kg.

That equation sees triple figure speeds conquered in just 3.6 seconds, with the sprint from rest to 200km/h taking just 10.8 seconds. Audi says the all-wheel drive R8 GT is good for a top speed of 320km/h and, that despite its prodigious performance, the direct injected ten cylinder engine consumes just 13.9 litres of fuel per 100 km on average.

The show model is dressed with 19-inch alloy wheels, newly designed bumpers, carbon-ceramic brakes and special sports seats.

The Australian International Motor Show will begin in Melbourne on July 1.
